Program Overview:
UNG offers an interdisciplinary Gerontology Minor or Certificate requiring 15 hours of coursework. Upon completion of the program, students opting for the certificate will receive it in addition to the major and minor. Degree seeking students will have the certificate noted on their transcripts. Graduate students and post-bachelor students seeking a certificate must enroll for all courses at the 5000 level.
Program Objectives:
To provide students with a theoretical introduction to the field of Gerontology theory, application, and research.
To provide students with opportunities for clinical internship experiences with older adults in a community setting.
To provide public service programs to meet educational, professional, and community needs.
To prepare students to meet the physiological, sociological, psychological, and community demands of an ever increasing population of older adults.
To integrate distance learning with web based technologies which enhance student exposure to the field of Gerontology.
To facilitate understanding of cultural, social, and economic differences in the study of aging.
